GIF Size Reducer
Reduce GIF file size to the exact KB or MB you need. Pick a target like 2 MB or 256 KB, and the reducer lowers quality, colors, frames and dimensions only as far as it has to, right in your browser.

How it works
Reduce GIF size in 3 steps
- 1
Add your GIF
Drop one or more GIFs, click Select files, or paste with Ctrl/⌘+V. The size controls open as soon as a file is added.
- 2
Set the size you need
Click a chip (Slack 128 KB up to Discord 20 MB) or type any size in KB. No target? Balanced still makes most GIFs much smaller.
- 3
Download the smaller GIF
Check the new size and play the before/after preview, then save one GIF or several as a ZIP.
Why this GIF size reducer
Decrease GIF size, not GIF quality
Built for hard upload limits: the reducer gives up as little quality as possible to reach the number you set.
Reduce GIF size to an exact number
It tries stronger lossy compression, then fewer colors, then fewer frames, and resizes last. All 42 target runs in our tests landed under the limit.
Lower GIF file size, keep the look
Quality is cut only when needed: our 3.32 MB video clip fit under 2 MB at 1.26 MB with all 60 frames at full size.
Drop frames, same duration
Remove every 2nd to 5th frame. Their display time moves to the previous frame, so the GIF plays for exactly as long.
Shrink dimensions
Set a max width/height or a percentage. Halving the size and dropping every 2nd frame took that clip from 3.32 MB to 218 KB.
See every KB you save
Each file shows its new size, frame count and dimensions, with an animated before/after preview. Batch files download as a ZIP.
Private by design
Your GIFs are reduced on your own device and never uploaded. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.

Common GIF size limits, tested
Each limit is a one-click chip in the tool. The last column is what our reducer actually produced (KB = 1,024 bytes).
| Destination | Limit | Chip in the tool | Our test result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discord upload (free account) | 20 MB | Discord 20 MB | A 14.57 MB, 150-frame GIF came out at 7.1 MB on the first Balanced pass: all frames, full 640×360. |
| Email attachment (safe size) | 2 MB | Email 2 MB | The same 14.57 MB GIF: 1,954 KB, every 2nd frame dropped, still 640×360. All 8 test GIFs fit. |
| Discord sticker | 512 KB (320×320) | Discord sticker 512 KB | 3.32 MB video clip: 492 KB, 45 of 60 frames, full 480×270. |
| Discord emoji | 256 KB | Discord emoji 256 KB | 978 KB rotating-earth GIF: 252 KB with all 44 frames at 400×400. |
| Slack emoji | 128 KB | Slack emoji 128 KB | 3.32 MB video clip: 108 KB (30 frames, 297×167). The earth GIF: 105 KB (22 frames, 400×400). |
Discord limits per Discord’s support pages (free uploads 20 MB since August 2026). Emoji and stickers are shown small, so a smaller canvas costs little.

FAQ
GIF size reducer FAQ
How do I reduce GIF size?
Drop the GIF into the reducer above. Without a target, the Balanced setting makes most GIFs much smaller (61% in total across our 8 test GIFs). To hit a limit, click a size chip or type a size in KB, and the reducer finds the best quality that fits.
How do I decrease GIF size to a specific KB or MB?
Type the size into the Target size field in KB (1 MB = 1024 KB, so 2 MB = 2048 KB and 10 MB = 10240 KB) or click a chip. The reducer raises lossy compression, reduces colors, drops frames and resizes, in that order, until the file fits.
How can I lower GIF file size without making it look bad?
Lower it in the least visible order: lossy compression and fewer colors first, frames and dimensions last. That is what the reducer does. Our 3.32 MB video clip fit a 2 MB target at 1.26 MB with every frame at full size.
How do I make a GIF smaller in MB?
Set a target in MB (as KB) or open the frame and resize options. In our tests, dropping every 2nd frame and halving the dimensions made a 3.32 MB clip 94% smaller (218 KB).
How do I shrink GIF file size for Discord?
Use the Discord 20 MB chip for chat uploads (the free limit since August 2026), Discord emoji 256 KB for emoji, or Discord sticker 512 KB for stickers (320×320). A 978 KB GIF came out at 252 KB for the emoji target in our test.
How do I reduce the size of a GIF for email?
Click the Email 2 MB chip. A 14.57 MB, 150-frame GIF came out at 1,954 KB in our test: every 2nd frame was dropped but it stayed at full 640×360.
What happens if my GIF can’t reach the target size?
The reducer shows the smallest result it could make and tells you it missed the target, so you can resize further, drop more frames or pick a larger target. If it had to resize to fit, it tells you the new dimensions.
Does reducing GIF size change the speed or remove frames?
Speed and duration stay the same. Frames are only removed if you turn on frame dropping or set a target that can’t be reached otherwise, and their display time is added to the previous frame.
Is this GIF size reducer free? Are my files uploaded?
It is free with no limits, sign-up or watermark. Nothing is uploaded: decoding, reducing and encoding all happen in your browser on your device.
What’s the difference between the GIF size reducer and the GIF compressor?
They use the same engine. The reducer opens the target size, frame and resize controls right away for hard limits. The GIF compressor focuses on the best quality at a smaller size when you don’t have a fixed limit.
