Effective date: 9 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information GIF Compressor (compressorgif.com) (“we”, “us”) handles when you visit compressorgif.com and use the GIF compression tools on it. In short: your GIF files never leave your device, and we do not run ads or analytics.
Your files stay on your device
The GIF Compressor, GIF Size Reducer and every other tool on this site run entirely in your web browser. When you add a GIF (by choosing a file, dropping files or a folder, or pasting), it is read, decoded, compressed and re-encoded by JavaScript and Web Workers on your own device. The file is not uploaded to our server or to any third party, and we never see, store or have access to your GIFs or the compressed results.
- Previews and downloads are created locally in your browser memory (temporary blob URLs) and are discarded when you close or reload the page.
- Batch downloads are zipped in your browser; no ZIP is built on a server.
- The tool makes no network requests with your files or file names.
Settings saved in your browser
To remember your preferred compression options (for example preset, colors, lossy level, target size or resize settings), the tool stores them in your browser’s local storage under the key “gc-settings”. This is not a cookie, it contains no personal information, it is never sent to us, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for compressorgif.com.
Server logs (hosting)
This website is hosted by Hostinger. Like virtually every web server, the hosting server automatically records standard technical log data when a page or file is requested. This typically includes:
- your IP address,
- the date and time of the request,
- the requested URL and the referring page,
- your browser type and operating system (user agent),
- the HTTP status code and the amount of data transferred.
These logs are used only to operate the website, keep it secure (for example to detect abuse or attacks) and fix errors. They are kept for a limited period according to the hosting provider’s standard log retention and are not used to build profiles or for advertising. The legal basis under the GDPR is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Hostinger processes this data on our behalf as a hosting provider.
Caching (LiteSpeed)
To make pages load faster, the site uses LiteSpeed caching on the server. Caching stores copies of our public pages, not information about you. In some situations (for example when you are logged in or have left a comment) the cache may set a small technical cookie so the correct version of a page is served. See our Cookie Policy for details.
Cookies
The compression tool itself sets no cookies. The website only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for WordPress and caching to work, if any, mainly for logged-in site administrators and, where comments are enabled, for people who choose to have their comment details remembered. We do not use advertising, tracking or social media cookies. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
No ads, no analytics
We do not show advertising and we currently do not use any analytics or tracking service (such as Google Analytics) on this site. If this changes, we will update this policy before doing so and, where required by law, ask for your consent first.
When you contact us
If you email us at <a href=”mailto:contact@compressorgif.com”>contact@compressorgif.com</a>, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use this only to reply to you and keep the correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your message, or taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
Sharing and selling of data
We do not sell, rent or share personal information with third parties for their own purposes, and we do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). The only service providers involved are our hosting provider (server logs) and our email provider (if you write to us).
International transfers
Our hosting and email providers may process data in data centers in different countries. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area or the UK, this is done on the basis of appropriate safeguards provided by those providers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you,
- have inaccurate data corrected,
- have your data deleted,
- restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests,
- receive your data in a portable format,
- withdraw any consent you have given, at any time,
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Because we do not receive your files and keep only minimal technical data, in most cases we will hold little or no information that can be linked to you.
Your rights under the CCPA/CPRA
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to request its deletion or correction, to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither), and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The categories we may collect are limited to internet or network activity information (server logs) and identifiers you choose to give us (your email address when you contact us).
To exercise any of these rights, email <a href=”mailto:contact@compressorgif.com”>contact@compressorgif.com</a>. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example if we add new features or services. The current version is always available on this page, with the effective date shown at the top.
